England prop Mako Vunipola has announced his retirement from international rugby after a 12-year senior career.

The 32-year-old represented his nation at Under-18 and Under-20 level before making his senior England Test debut in November 2012, and he went on to make 79 appearances for his country.

Vunipola amassed 10 points and scored two tries for England, winning three Six Nations Championships, and he was also a part of their 2019 Rugby World Cup squad as England lost to South Africa in the final.

However, the long-serving Saracens man missed the 2023 World Cup due to a back injury, and he confirmed on social media that he has called time on his national career, writing: "It's been an honour to have represented my country but all good things must come to an end.

"The time has come to step away now. There have been lots of highs and lows. Would love to thank everyone who have helped me along the way.

"To my wife thank you for taking care of our family and all your support. Words don't do it justice. To my parents I'm eternally grateful for all you have sacrificed for me to be here. Malo aupito and Ofa atu."

In addition to his exploits with England, Vunipola also toured with the British and Irish Lions in 2013, 2017 and 2021, playing all three games in the former year to assist in a famous series win over Australia.
