Brian McDermott "humbled" by victory over St Helens

Leeds Rhinos boss Brian McDermott praises St Helens following last night's Super League playoff at Headingley.

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott has said that he is "humbled" to have beaten St Helens in last night's Super League playoff clash at Headingley.

The 43-year-old, who is looking to engineer the Rhinos' third successive title, described the game as a "cracking advert" for rugby league, and praised the Saints for their effort.

"I can't speak highly enough of St Helens," McDermott told Sky Sports News. "I feel humble that we've won it, although I don't feel lucky.

"I thought it was a cracking advert for our game and a cracking advert for the playoffs. It was such an epic game, with both teams throwing everything at each other.

"St Helens didn't leave anything in their tank and we had to be very good."

The Rhinos join Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants in the semi-finals.
