Wigan Warriors extended their lead at the top of the Super League table to five points with a 33-32 victory at Widnes Vikings on Friday evening.
Anthony Gelling crossed over twice for Wigan, while Logan Tomkins, Lewis Tierney Scott Taylor and Josh Charnley, who added a further eight points from conversations, also touched down.
However, it was Darrell Goulding's drop goal, which came 11 minutes from time and gave Wigan a seven-point cushion, that ultimately proved to be the difference between the sides.
Patrick Ah Van registered a hat-trick of tries for Widnes, while Adam Lawton, Rhys Hanbury and Frank Winterstein also got their names on the scoresheet.
The win sees Wigan move clear of second-placed Huddersfield Giants, who lost 35-28 at Hull Kingston Rovers.
Travis Burns and Alex Brown each earned two-try hauls, while Constantine Mika and Graeme Horne also crossed over for Rovers.
The boot of Michael Dobson contributed 11 points.
Elsewhere, Jimmy Keinhorst scored a hat-trick for Leeds Rhinos as the reigning champions beat Castleford Tigers 42-24 at Headingley.
