A first-half free kick from Bakary Sako gave Wolverhampton Wanderers a 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in a scrappy encounter at Molineux this afternoon.
The hosts started the brighter, firing early warning shots through Michail Antonio and Chris O'Grady, who dragged a strike wide in the third minute.
Kevin Doyle had a chance for Wolves four minutes later, but the striker shot wide from outside of the area.
Wolves took the lead just minutes before the half-time whistle when Sako hit the back of the net directly from a free kick after Jermaine Johnson felled Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Ebanks-Blake came close to extending Wolves' lead early in the second half, threatening Chris Kirkland's goal with a shot that drifted narrowly wide.
Scrappy football ensued as both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances. The visitors had the better of the attacking possession in the closing stages but couldn't claw their way back into the game.
