Huddersfield beat Wolves 3-1 to move out of relegation zone

Huddersfield Town come from behind to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in a crucial encounter at the foot of the Championship table.

Huddersfield Town came from behind to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in a crucial encounter at the foot of the Championship table this afternoon.

Both teams came into the game in danger of relegation, but the win has lifted Huddersfield two points clear of 22nd-placed Barnsley.

Elliot Ward gave Wolves an early lead after just four minutes, when he nipped in front of the away defence to clip a Kevin Doyle cross into the net.

However, Sean Scannell levelled the scores just before the half-hour mark with a neat finish after dribbling past two defenders.

On the stroke of half time, Neil Danns forced Dorus de Vries into a good save, and Wolves were able to clear after the goalkeeper parried the shot away.

Wolves started the second half brightly, but Huddersfield took the lead from a corner. The ball was swung in and De Vries made a good save from James Vaughan's effort, only for the rebound to fall to Jermaine Beckford, who tapped in from close range.

Beckford scored again just a minute later, stepping inside Kaspars Gorkss before placing a good finish into the corner of the goal.

Things went from bad to worse on 70 minutes for the away side, as Jamie O'Hara was sent off for pushing Keith Southern in the face.

Wolves are now 22nd in the Championship.
