Diego and Alexander Madlung score in the second half to lead Wolfsburg to a 2-0 home victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg have resumed their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart at home.

The visitors dominated the first half at the Volkswagen Arena, Martin Harnik, Ibrahima Traore and Christian Gentner going close in the opening 30 minutes.

Gentner had two chances inside a minute before the half-time interval, first firing wide from outside the box and then forcing Diego Benaglio into making a good save.

The pattern continued in the second half, as Shinji Okazaki and Georg Niedermeier both troubled Benaglio in the first five minutes.

However, the game changed its course on 51 minutes when Wolfsburg went ahead, Diego firing home past Sven Ulreich from outside the Stuttgart penalty box.

Stuttgart created chances to restore parity, but it was Dieter Hecking's side who scored the game's second and final goal, Alexander Madlung heading home Diego's delivery from just yards out.

The win leaves Wolfsburg in 13th place with 22 points from 18 matches, while Stuttgart are three points ahead of them in ninth.
