Wigan Athletic held by 10-man Birmingham City

Birmingham City earn a goalless draw at Wigan Athletic despite having to play the final 28 minutes with just 10 men.

Birmingham City earned a goalless draw at Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day despite having to play the final 28 minutes with just 10 men.

The visiting Blues had been the slightly better side until Jesse Lingard was shown a straight card just after the hour mark.

Lingard was given his marching orders for kicking out at Jordi Gomez, who had appeared to have fouled the on-loan Manchester United midfielder, although referee Stephen Martin disagreed.

Wigan struggled to make their numerical advantage count following Lingard's dismissal and Birmingham's defence was rarely put under pressure.

Lee Clark's men have now not conceded a goal in over 280 minutes of play.
