Wigan Athletic pick up first point against Doncaster Rovers

Wigan Athletic pick up the first point of their League One campaign after a 0-0 draw with Doncaster Rovers at the DW Stadium.

Wigan Athletic have picked up their first point in League One after they played out a goalless draw with Doncaster Rovers at the DW Stadium.

Both sides started with attacking intent as Francisco Junior blazed a shot over the bar in the opening two minutes before Harry Forrester's effort flew inches wide of Richard O'Donnell's goal at the other end.

Michael Jacobs also tested Rovers keeper Thorsten Stuckmann early on and went close to scoring with a free kick from the edge of the area later in the first half.

Just after the half-hour mark, Forrester went close again for the Vikings, as he forced O'Donnell to tip a shot over his own bar and the Latics stopper was called into action late in the half to keep out an Andy Williams strike.

After a tentative start to the second half, which saw Forrester and James Coppinger denied with shots at goal, Gary Caldwell tried to shake up the hosts with the introduction of Sean Murray and Tottenham Hotspur loanee Shaquile Coulthirst.

Those changes almost gave Wigan the breakthrough, with Murray's shot drift agonisingly past the left-hand post before ex-Tranmere Rovers man Max Power had a shot saved by Stuckmann.

Williams then wasted another chance for Rovers when he blazed over from close range in the dying stages as both sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
