FA Cup roundup: Altrincham shock Barnsley

Sports Mole rounds up all of the action from the FA Cup first round as Altrincham and Eastleigh both record wins over League One opposition.

National League side Altrincham have recorded the biggest upset of Saturday's FA Cup first-round fixtures, beating League One Barnsley by a 1-0 scoreline.

A goal from Damian Reeves moments after the restart was enough for the Robins to progress to the second round, where they are joined by fellow National League club Eastleigh.

A penalty 15 minutes from time from Ben Strevens gave his side a surprise 1-0 success away at Crewe Alexandra, who had goalkeeper Ben Garratt sent off during the second half.

A last-gasp winner from Elliott Frear has earned Forest Green Rovers a 2-1 win away at AFC Wimbledon, while Welling United and Grimsby Town ensured that the top tier of non-league football are guaranteed five representatives in the next stage after victories over Barwell and St Albans City respectively.

Stourbridge, who ply their trade in the Southern League Premier, had former Walsall striker Karl Hawley to thank as they beat Dover Athletic 2-1 at the Crabble Stadium.

An eighth non-league team will progress to the second round but Northwich Victoria and Boreham Wood go to a replay after a 1-1 draw.

Wigan Athletic, the 2013 winners, are out of the competition after they were thrashed 4-0 by Bury, with Tom Pope, Danny Mayor, Nathan Cameron and Leon Clarke getting the goals.

League Two Barnet have shocked Blackpool, with first-half goals from Tom Champion and Michael Gash giving the Bees a 2-0 success.

Walsall, the leaders in League One, have overcome Fleetwood Town 2-0, with George Evans and Anthony Forde getting the goals, but Burton Albion are out after succumbing 3-0 to Peterborough United.

Gillingham have also been eliminated after losing 3-0 at Stevenage, while Coventry City made an early exit after losing 2-1 at home to cash-strapped Northampton Town.

There were no such problems for Millwall, however, as Aiden O'Brien, Lee Gregory and Steve Morison all scored in a 3-1 triumph over National League North outfit AFC Fylde.

Other non-league sides to bow out included Basingstoke Town, who lost 1-0 at Cambridge United, and Stalybridge Celtic, who went down 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers.

A Kudus Oyenuga goal right on half time helped Hartlepool United edge past Cheltenham Town, while Portsmouth and Sheffield United negotiated potential banana skins against Macclesfield Town and Worcester City respectively.

National League South side Wealdstone led Colchester United 2-1 late in the first half, but the League One team eventually prevailed by a 6-2 scoreline, with Macauley Bonne netting four of the goals.

Staines Town also conceded six goals away at Leyton Orient, who stormed into a 3-0 advantage after 13 minutes before sealing a 6-1 success.

Accrington Stanley edged a five-goal thriller against York City, Crawley Town lost 2-1 at home to Luton Town, while Rochdale heaped further woe on Swindon Town in a 3-1 win.

Two goals from Paddy Madden earned Scunthorpe United a 2-1 win at home to Southend United, while Carlisle United defeated League Two high-flyers Plymouth Argyle 2-0 on the South Coast.

The game between Mansfield Town and Oldham Athletic, as well as Dagenham & Redbridge's home tie with Morecambe, both ended goalless.
