West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna backs teammate Declan Rice to recover from the game-changing mistake that he made during the club's 4-1 defeat to Arsenal.

West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has suggested that Declan Rice has the confidence to recover from his mistake against Arsenal.

With the game locked at 1-1 and just eight minutes remaining, Rice ducked and failed to head clear a cross from Aaron Ramsey, with the ball eventually finding the far corner of the net.

Manager David Moyes was critical of Rice as West Ham lost 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium, but Ogbonna has backed his teammate to respond in a positive manner during the final games of the campaign.

Ogbonna told the club's official website: "4-1 in the end was a bit unfair. We played well, we went to Arsenal and for 80 minutes we showed ourselves well.

"Dec has played for a long time this season and every time he's played well. He's a confident boy, and it's just a misunderstanding and I'm sorry for him, but we are positive and focused on the next game."

West Ham currently sit six points clear of the relegation zone in the top-flight standings.
