West Ham United are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after 9-8 penalty-shootout victory over 10-man Everton following a 2-2 draw after extra time.
West Ham spurned a glorious opportunity to take the lead when Enner Valencia was denied by Joel Robles in the area after the South American striker had robbed John Stones of possession on the edge of the box.
Everton were next to create an opening moments later when Romelu Lukaku's close-range attempt was well saved by Adrian before the lineman's flag was raised for offside.
Aiden McGeady's step-over was enough to see the Ireland international work some space on 20 minutes, but his goal-bound effort was blocked by a West Ham defender inside a packed penalty area.

Stewart Downing went close on the half-hour mark when he cut inside and dragged a right-footed effort just wide of Robles's right-hand post.
A sweeping counter-attack from the Hammers almost brought the first goal but Alex Song's effort hit Valencia inside the area before Everton scrambled it clear for a corner on 34 minutes.
Valencia gave the home side the lead six minutes after the break when he raced onto Andy Carroll's pass before firing past Robles inside the area despite the attention of Stones.
The Toffees' task was made more difficult when McGeady was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence five minutes after the goal.
Carroll latched on to Aaron Cresswell's deep cross, but the former Liverpool striker could only head onto the top of the net with just under 15 minutes of normal time left.

James Collins, who scored in last week's first leg, was next to threaten the goal with a header but his effort was stopped by Robles before the defender nodded over the bar from the resulting corner.
However, it was the visitors were evened things up when Mirallas whipped a free kick into the top corner to set up a frantic final 10 minutes.
Adrian was forced to beat away a free kick before he gathered Valencia's downward header as the Hammers pressed for a late winner.
Carroll's effort inside the six-yard box was charged down before Kevin Nolan's attempt ended in a similar fashion, but the midfielder forced Robles into a stop moments later with a hooked shot that nearly found the top corner.

The 10 men of Everton took the lead seven minutes into extra time when Lukaku converted Mirallas's low cross from all of three yards out and the Belgium international celebrated the goal in honour of compatriot Junior Malanda, who died in a car crash last week.
Valencia fizzed a shot just wide of Robles's left-hand post as the Hammers pressed for the goal to take the game to penalties before Carlton Cole replaced Collins with 10 minutes remaining.
It didn't take long for Cole to make his mark, and he evened the scores up when he converted James Tomkins's nod down just 100 seconds after coming on.
Sam Allardyce's team nearly took the lead once again when Carroll rose highest from another corner, but his effort deflected narrowly wide.
Lukaku spurned a great chance to win it late on after dragging a shot wide inside the area after a powerful run had taken him beyond a number of challenges.
Everton had Robles to thank once more when Morgan Amalfitano fired goalwards as the game crept into the final few minutes before Cole almost snatched it in injury time in a goal-mouth scramble.
Adrian denied Steven Naismith after Mark Noble and Mirallas had converted for their respective sides, and it was Nolan who gave the home side the advantage after four spot kicks.
Lukaku evened things up before Carroll gave the Hammers the advantage once again, and Leighton Baines squeezed home his effort despite Adrian getting a hand on it.
Downing missed with a chance to send the Hammers through, and Adrian was furious with himself for failing to keep out Stones's penalty.
Robles handed West Ham the chance to go through by blasting his effort at the crossbar and it was left to his opposite number Adrian finish the tie off and send the home side through.
