Hughes lined up for Wales job

Mark Hughes is likely to replace the late Gary Speed as the manager of Wales, according to reports.

Former Fulham manager Mark Hughes is believed to be in contention to become the new Wales boss following the untimely death of Gary Speed.

The Football Association of Wales are thought to be conducting a meeting on Thursday, with Hughes willing to take on the role on a temporary or permanent basis, according to The Express.

The 48-year-old, who coached the Welsh the first team from 1984 to 1999, will learn about a potential return before the national side's next match in February.

The governing body have insisted that they will not rush the search for a new manager since learning of Speed's apparent suicide on Sunday morning.
