Lincoln City condemn AFC Telford United to another defeat

Lincoln City record just their second win in eight games after beating AFC Telford United by a 2-0 scoreline.

Two second-half goals have earned Lincoln City a comfortable 2-0 triumph over bottom-of-the-table outfit AFC Telford United.

In a game between two out-of-form teams, neither outfit looked particularly threatening in the final third before Lincoln's Tom Anderson had a header cleared off the line by Ryan Higgins.

As chances continued to be few and far between, Lincoln held the majority of the possession but their only effort on goal came via a deflected free kick from Sean Newton.

Nat Brown had two opportunities for the home side shortly before the break but neither found the target as AFC Telford held out until half time.

The visitors returned for the restart on the front foot and after Sam Smith had been denied by goalkeeper Nick Townsend, Kristian Platt had a set piece tipped over the crossbar.

However, Lincoln slowly found their rhythm and just after the hour mark, Newton gave them the lead from the penalty spot after Jon Nolan had been felled in the penalty area.

Sean Clancy almost registered an immediate equaliser for Telford but after Townsend's sharp reaction kept the score at 1-0, Lincoln doubled their advantage.

A long throw from Tom Miller was allowed to reach Ben Tomlinson, and the forward made no mistake when he was given the chance to convert from close range under little pressure.

Jordan Burrow nearly made it three in the closing stages after being set up by Tomlinson but the Imps were happy to settle for two to record just their second win in eight games.
