Will Grigg was on the scoresheet twice as MK Dons won League One's lunchtime battle between third and fourth this afternoon by seeing off Swindon Town 3-0 at the County Ground.
Swindon entered the match on a three-game winning streak, but it was MK who got off to the far better start in an electric opening 10 minutes.
Grigg and Daniel Powell were both denied by Wes Foderingham before Dele Alli saw his penalty appeal waved away after he had burst past Sam Ricketts and tumbled under a challenge from the Robins defender.
After withstanding the visitors' early pressure, Swindon had their first chance when Nathan Byrne's goalbound shot was blocked by Dean Lewington.
John Swift then missed a big chance to put the home side in front as he slid in at the back post but could only poke Ben Gladwin's cross wide.
The second half started much like the first, with both sides looking to attack and Samir Carruthers going close with a curling free kick that Foderingham had to tip over.
MK took the lead just before the hour mark when Lee Hodson's shot was saved by Foderingham and broke kindly for Powell, who headed into the unguarded net.
The visitors' advantage was doubled not long after when Grigg curled into the far corner after being found in plenty of space on the right of the area by Carruthers.
The on-loan Brentford man then put further gloss on the result two minutes from time with a cool finish from close range as the Dons made it three wins in a row.
Three points for Karl Robinson's side see them leapfrog Swindon and close to within five points of Preston North End in the automatic promotion places.
