MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has admitted that he is not sure if he will be able to extend Will Grigg's stay beyond the end of this season.
The Northern Ireland international is on a season-long loan in the Midlands and has scored 13 League One goals this term.
His contract with Brentford runs for another year, but Robinson is hopeful that a deal could be struck this summer.
"We don't know whether we can afford him or make it happen," Robinson told Get West London.
"I'm sure the two chairmen will speak about it in the summer."
Grigg joined Brentford from Walsall in 2013, but only managed to find the net five times in his debut season with the Bees.
