Sunderland reportedly ponder recalling David Meyler from his loan stay at Hull City as skipper Lee Cattermole faces a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Sunderland are reportedly ready to recall David Meyler to the side following midfielder Lee Cattermole's knee injury.

The Black Cats skipper is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up the injury during Sunderland's goalless draw with Queens Park Rangers.

It is understood that Meyler, who moved to Hull City on a loan deal until the end of the year, may have to be recalled until Sunderland can strengthen in the January transfer window, according to the Shields Gazette.

Sunderland currently reside in 16th place in the Premier League table.
