Sunderland have seen their latest bid for summer transfer target Charis Mavrias rejected by Panathinaikos.
The Black Cats agreed a £2.5m deal for the winger last month, but eventually withdrew their offer after growing frustrated with a series of delays in the deal.
After sanctioning the sale of James McClean to Wigan Athletic yesterday boss Paolo Di Canio is desperate to land a replacement, with Marvias thought to fit the bill, according to the Sunderland Echo.
Di Canio attempted to close a season-long deal for the 19-year-old yesterday but saw his bid swiftly rejected by Panathanaikos, who are only interested in the full transfer due to financial troubles.
Mavrias has represented Greece twice at senior international level, while also playing 65 times for Panathinaikos during three seasons in their first-team squad.
