Sunderland have launched an appeal against Stephane Sessegnon's red card from last night's encounter against Aston Villa.
The attacker was handed his marching orders by referee Lee Probert during the closing stages of the match at Villa Park for a foul that he committed on Yacouba Sylla.
However, having reviewed the incident, the Black Cats have decided to challenge Probert's decision by lodging an appeal with the Football Association, who will meet tomorrow to consider their verdict.
Should the appeal be unsuccessful, Sessegnon will be suspended for Sunderland's remaining three matches of the season.
