Sunderland midfielder David Vaughan has revealed that he is confident that new head coach Gus Poyet can move the club up the Premier League table.
The Black Cats are currently bottom after earning just one point in seven matches, but Vaughan believes that the appointment of Poyet can bring positive things to the Stadium of Light.
The 30-year-old told reporters: "It's a good appointment. Hopefully he can get us off the bottom of the league and improve on performances from the start of the season.
"I don't know a great deal about Gus but I've spoken to a few players who have played with or worked under him and they have had good things to say."
Poyet was installed as the club's head coach after Paolo Di Canio was sacked last month.
