Gus Poyet: 'Sunderland need victory to calm nerves'

Gus Poyet claims that only a victory will calm the nerves at Sunderland after picking up three points from four Premier League games.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has claimed that only a win will calm the nerves which have surrounded the club in recent times.

After producing a surprising run of form late last season to avoid relegation, the Black Cats are yet to taste victory in the new campaign, but Poyet is urging his players to remain confident ahead of their trip to Burnley on Saturday.

"We need to keep getting better, be difficult to beat and then soon that first victory will come that will make everyone stay calm," the Uruguayan told members of the media.

"It is a tough game because of Burnley's position, and it is away from home. We know the team reflects the passion of the manager Sean Dyche, and the way they play.

"They are also looking for their first victory. We have to be confident in what we do. Maintain a high level of performance for a long period."

Sunderland have recorded three draws and a defeat in their opening four Premier League fixtures.
