Stoke City chairman Peter Coates believes that goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will stay at the club.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates believes that goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will remain at the Britannia Stadium beyond the summer.

The Potters chief recently claimed that the 25-year-old would be free to join another club, but Coates is confident that the shot-stopper will snub a move away.

"If Asmir stays, as we expect, we would try to get Jack [Butland] to a Premier League or Championship club on loan to build up his experience," Coates told The Sentinel.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been among the clubs touted as possible destinations for the goalkeeper.
