Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic believes that his side have the potential to grow into a force to be reckoned with.

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic believes that the club has laid the foundations for a long and successful future.

Stoke, who were promoted to the top flight in 2008, have become a solid Premier League side in the last few years, and Begovic believes that they should draw inspiration from Newcastle in their quest to become a side that will regularly compete in Europe.

"We're desperate for the club to push on and I think there is a lot of room to grow in many respects," the Bosnia international told BBC Radio Stoke.

"The main thing for the club, and what's happening really, is that they've tried to put plans in place for the club to be successful long term, and that's very important.

"Newcastle have been a kind of a sleeping giant really, if you think about where the club was 10 odd years ago and the levels they were competing at, so it's no surprise they can reach those levels. For us, being in Europe has taken us into unexplored territory, so we're starting to scratch the surface and see where we can go from there."

Begovic joined Stoke back in 2010, at which time manager Tony Pulis said that he had the potential to be the best keeper in the country.
