Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly unwilling to meet Leicester City's £50m asking price for James Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly not prepared to meet Leicester City's £50m asking price for James Maddison.

The England international is widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium following Leicester's relegation from the Premier League.

Maddison has 12 months remaining on his current contract, and the Foxes will view the current window as one final opportunity to sell the midfielder for a significant fee.

Newcastle United and Tottenham are both pursuing Maddison's signature, although the Magpies are understood to be leading the race.

After finishing in fourth place last term, Eddie Howe's side can offer Maddison Champions League football, which has seemingly given them the edge over Spurs.

However, the Magpies have already indicated that they are only willing to pay £30m for the Englishman, falling £20m short of Leicester's £50m valuation.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have also made it clear that they are not prepared to splash out any more than £30m for the Leicester man.

As a result, it appears that a stand-off has ensued between the two interested Premier League clubs and the Foxes, who are not set to budge on their asking price.

The prospect of a transfer taking place imminently now seems unlikely, with all the relevant parties some way off from agreeing a deal.

Leicester will be wary that if they do not sell Maddison this summer then he could walk away on a free transfer next summer.

Although he was unable to keep his side in the top flight, Maddison managed to register 10 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.

In total, Maddison has featured in 203 games for Leicester since arriving from Norwich City in 2018, scoring 55 goals and contributing 41 assists.

The 26-year-old is currently away with the England national team, and he played 70 minutes of Friday's 4-0 victory over Malta in Euro 2024 qualifying.
