Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly ended their interest in Gennaro Gattuso following fierce backlash from fans.
Daniel Levy's search for a permanent successor for Jose Mourinho has so far proved unsuccessful, as talks with Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca have both broken down in recent weeks.
Following their failure to agree terms with Fonseca, Spurs were reported to have turned their attention to Gattuso, who recently left his post at Fiorentina without taking charge of a game.
However, news of the former midfielder's possible arrival led to outrage from Spurs supporters on social media, and the Evening Standard now reports that Tottenham have decided against hiring the ex-Italy international.
Gattuso was understood to be a priority target of Spurs' new managing director Fabio Paratici, but the 43-year-old's past controversies have supposedly led to Tottenham looking elsewhere following the adverse reaction from fans.
