Mauricio Pochettino enjoyed a satisfying return to the South Coast on Saturday as Tottenham Hotspur came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at Southampton in the Premier League.

Graziano Pelle gave the hosts a 29th-minute lead before Erik Lamela got Spurs level shortly before half time.

Pelle struck again midway through the second half to put the Saints in control once more, but Nacer Chadli found the net five minutes later to earn a share of the spoils for the visitors.

SOUTHAMPTON

Goal

Kelvin Davis: Not the most convincing 90 minutes from the shot-stopper, who could have done more to keep out both of Tottenham's goals. (6/10)

Defence

Nathaniel Clyne: An unusually subdued performance from the right-back. Did not get forward as much as we are used to seeing from him. (6/10)

Jose Fonte: A composed and solid showing from Southampton's captain. Almost stole the headlines at the end with a header that nearly crept in. (7/10)

Maya Yoshida: Worked well with Fonte in the heart of the home side's defence, particularly in the first half when Spurs were given little joy in the final third. (7/10)

Ryan Bertrand: Showed more attacking intent than fellow full-back Clyne, though he found it hard to contain the visitors the longer the match wore on. (6/10)

Midfield

Toby Alderweireld: Playing in a midfield position, the Belgian did not have much of an impact on proceedings. Often looked like he was unsure of his role. (5/10)

Morgan Schneiderlin: Another steady and solid afternoon for the Frenchman as he kept Tottenham's creative players at arm's length for much of the game. (7/10)

James Ward-Prowse: Was underwhelming in open play, but his set pieces were delivered with quality and played an important part in the home team's first-half dominance. (6/10)

Steven Davis: Was guilty of wasting three glorious chances in front of goal. Those misses aside, the Irishman was energetic in his scampering around midfield. (6/10)

Attack

Sadio Mane: Showed glimpses of what he is capable of by running ferociously at the Spurs defence, but his repeated play-acting was just embarrassing. (5/10)

Graziano Pelle: Looked like the Pelle of old as he netted twice for the hosts, taking both goals well. Also stayed positive throughout after a few performances that have seen his head drop. (8/10)

Substitutes

Shane Long: Mad a big impact after coming off the bench by setting up Pelle for Southampton's second goal. Ran with plenty of vigour after that. (6/10)

Eljero Elia: Failed to have as big a say as he could have when he entered the action with 10 minutes remaining. (X/10)

Harrison Reed: Was only given a handful of minutes to make an impression and failed to do so. (5/10)

Goal

Hugo Lloris: Pulled off a couple of important saves to keep Southampton out. Was little he could have done for the home side's goals though. (7/10)

Defence

Eric Dier: Did not make that big a mark in defence, but the youngster was surprisingly impressive getting forward for the visitors. (6/10)

Federico Fazio: Grew more into the game as it went on after a stuttering start. His physicality was important during the final stages as the Saints pushed for a winner. (6/10)

Jan Vertonghen: Despite picking up an early booking, the Belgian gave a committed performance throughout the game. (7/10)

Ben Davies: A torrid afternoon for Davies, who was at fault for Southampton's opening goal before being stretchered off with an arm injury. (5/10)

Midfield

Ryan Mason: Did not get involved as much as he could have. Also found it difficult to get stuck in when it became a midfield battle. (5/10)

Nabil Bentaleb: His combative style was useful for Spurs, particularly in the second half when they pushed more men forward and needed some extra protection at the back. (6/10)

Erik Lamela: Drifted in and out of the match before popping up to score Tottenham's first equaliser. Disappeared in the second half and was brought off late on. (6/10)

Christian Eriksen: Did not have a good first half, but the Dane was much improved after the break as he often drove the visitors forward. (7/10)

Nacer Chadli: The Belgian's resurgence continues thanks to a second goal in two games. Did not link particularly well with his teammates, though he made up for that with a cool finish to make it 2-2. (6/10)

Attack

Harry Kane: Looked lively when he was given the service by his teammates, but these moments were few and far between. Was quiet for the most part. (6/10)

Substitutes

Vlad Chiriches: Provided the away side with more of a physical presence at the back during the final 15 minutes after replacing the injured Davies. (6/10)

Moussa Dembele: Kept Tottenham's midfield ticking over in the latter stages as both teams pushed for a winner. (6/10)

Roberto Soldado: Did not do much when he came on with three minutes of normal time remaining. Was going to be brought on earlier, but Chadli's equaliser scuppered that. (5/10)
