Phil Thompson urges Tottenham Hotspur to sign new striker

Phil Thompson insists that Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a new striker before the end of the month.

Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window, according to former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson.

The North Londoners threw away a two-goal lead at home to Stoke City today, and didn't have a striker on the bench to replace the tired Harry Kane.

Thompson told Sky Sports News: "At 2-0 you're probably thinking well we're cruising here but the Premier League is not like that.

"You take your foot off the gas and it happens. But Spurs do need help up front, the nearest they had on the bench was Delle Ali anywhere near who might get a goal.

"[Nacer] Chadli went up front and [Erik] Lamela came on but the impetus had been lost and Stoke were getting stronger."

Spurs face Leicester City in in their third match of the campaign next weekend.
