Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has described Jermain Defoe's record in English football as "second to none" after it was revealed that the striker would be leaving the club in February.
Defoe has agreed a long-term deal with MLS side Toronto, and Sherwood has praised the 31-year-old's contribution to the Premier League.
The 44-year-old told reporters: "His contribution has been immense - not only to English football, but to the Premier League in general.
"He is one of the top strikers that the Premier League has ever seen. His goalscoring record is second to none.
"I hope that continues, because I still see him having a future with England in the World Cup in the summer."
Defoe will still be available for selection until February 28.
