Mauricio Pochettino describes high-spending football clubs as "desperate"

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes that football clubs who spend huge transfer fees on players are "desperate" to improve their squads.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has described clubs who spend huge transfer fees on players as "desperate".

The North London outfit has signed two individuals ahead of the 2016-17 season - midfielder Victor Wanyama and forward Vincent Janssen - for a combined £28m.

Other clubs in the Premier League, such as Manchester United and Manchester City, have spent approximately £300m between them on multiple players this summer, including a world-record £89m for Paul Pogba.

"That shows when you spend a lot of money it is because you are not happy with your squad or your players and you are desperate to improve your squad," Pochettino told reporters at a press conference.

"I am very happy with my players, I think it is very difficult to find better players than we have."

Spurs begin their season away at Everton on Saturday.
