Steven Pienaar: I begged to leave Spurs

Steven Pienaar reveals that he had to beg Harry Redknapp to let him leave Spurs.

Steven Pienaar has revealed that he had to beg Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp to let him leave the club.

The South African completed a last-minute loan switch to Everton on transfer deadline day.

"I went to ask if I could go but he said no at first. I had a think for a few minutes and went back in to ask again," Pienaar said.

"He still said no but eventually understood that I just wanted to play games and agreed.

"I was still in my tracksuit and just wanted to rush to the secretary's office to sign the paperwork."

Pienaar left Goodison Park last year but has struggled to find a first-team place at Spurs.
