Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker has declared that Saturday's win at Swansea City will prove crucial in their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League.

Andre Villas-Boas's side went third in the league table with a 2-1 win at the Liberty Stadium, thanks to goals from Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale.

Parker thinks that leaving Swansea with their first win in four matches showed that his side have a steely determination to make sure that they secure a return to the Champions League.

He told the club's official website: "Swansea put us under pressure the longer the game went on. They are a very good team and we had to show a different side to our character at the end.

"We did that to grind out the result and it's massive result for us. Before the game started, winning was always going to be the most important thing and we managed to come away with the three points.

"That was crucial after a couple of defeats in the league, we've stopped the rot, picked up a big win and now we move on again."

Parker has made 21 appearances for Spurs since returning from an Achilles tendon injury in December.
