How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against LASK Linz

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their Europa League showdown with LASK Linz on Thursday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur will be aiming to take another step towards qualification for the Europa League knockout stages when they travel to Austria to take on LASK Linz on Thursday evening.

Jose Mourinho has witnessed his side accrue nine points from four matches in Group J, and Spurs will secure their place in the round of 32 with victory over LASK, whom they beat 3-0 in North London back in October.

The Lilywhites were unable to keep their winning run going in the Premier League at the weekend as they played out a goalless stalemate with London rivals Chelsea, but that result was enough to see them climb back to the top of the Premier League table.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham could line up for their trip to the Linzer Stadion.

While a trip to the Linzer Stadion will not be easy by any stretch, Mourinho is sure to rotate heavily with Sunday's North London derby with Arsenal in the back of his mind.

At this moment in time, Spurs only have two confirmed absentees in the forms of Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld - the latter of whom will not be available to Mourinho for the next few weeks.

Joe Rodon did well to stop Chelsea's formidable attacking stars from breaching the Spurs defence at Stamford Bridge, but the 23-year-old is ineligible for this tie, so Japhet Tanganga should come back in alongside Davinson Sanchez for the trip to Austria.

Matt Doherty turned out against Ludogorets last week but Mourinho opted for Serge Aurier on the right-hand side of defence against Chelsea. However, Doherty's absence was not down to anything serious and he should return to the team on Thursday, with Ben Davies starting on the opposite side to allow Sergio Reguilon the chance to rest.

Harry Winks has slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham, with his 56-yard goal against Ludogorets not enough to earn him a place in the squad at Stamford Bridge, but the Englishman is expected to reprise his regular role in Mourinho's midfield for the Europa League showdown with LASK.

Dele Alli was handed a rare opportunity to impress against Ludogorets, and the out-of-favour midfielder earned praise from his manager following his confident performance last week. The 24-year-old could therefore be granted another start this week, meaning that Giovani Lo Celso will have to make do with a spot on the bench.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were unable to add to their tallies for the season against Chelsea, but the prolific duo will certainly be aiming to do so against an out-of-sorts Arsenal team, and Mourinho is expected to rest Kane and Son ahead of Sunday's North London derby.

A night off for Kane allows Carlos Vinicius to build on the five goal contributions he already boasts in the 2020-21 Europa League, with Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura completing the lineup out wide over Son and Steven Bergwijn respectively.
