Fernando Torres: 'I have nothing to prove'

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres insists that he deserves his place in the Spanish national team.

Spain striker Fernando Torres has insisted that he is worthy of his place in the national team's starting XI.

The Chelsea man ended a year-long goal drought at international level on Thursday evening, scoring four times during a 10-0 demolition of Tahiti, but believes that he had nothing to prove.

"I have done enough things in my career with Spain so I don't have to prove anything," The AP quotes Torres as saying.

"I have played more than 100 caps and I have scored more than 25 goals. I have been playing 10 years for the national team so [I have] nothing to prove. I am not a kid."

The Tahiti clash marked Torres's first competitive start for Spain since last October.
