Southampton defender Luke Shaw has admitted that he was "gutted" to learn that Nicola Cortese had stepped down as the club's chairman.
The Italian banker handed in his resignation on Wednesday evening following reports of boardroom unrest, with owner Katharina Liebherr naming herself as his temporary replacement.
"Gutted with that news, but would just like to thank Nicola Cortese for everything he has done for me and the club! All the best to him," Shaw wrote on Twitter.
Cortese's departure has given rise to reports that Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino is considering his future at the club after being pressured to sell key players by Liebherr.
