Southampton appoint Gareth Rogers as interim chief executive

Southampton name chief financial officer Gareth Rogers as the club's new interim chief executive officer.

Southampton have appointed Gareth Rogers, their chief financial officer, as interim chief executive officer of the club.

The 34-year-old has been with the club as CFO since March 2011.

In a statement, club owner and Saints non-executive chairman Katharina Liebherr said: "I am delighted that Gareth has agreed to step into this role.

"After the events of the past week, my priority has been to bring stability to the management of the club and I am pleased that we have been able to make this appointment from within."

The appointment is viewed as a show of solidarity within the club following last week's resignation of executive chairman Nicola Cortese.
