A Paddy Madden brace saw Scunthorpe United beat Crewe Alexandra 2-0 at Glanford Park this afternoon.
Tom Hopper made space for himself down Crewe's right-hand side after 10 minutes and his cross found Paddy Madden, who headed past Ben Garratt from three yards out.
Hopper was again involved in attack as he laid a ball off to Neal Bishop, only to see the midfielder fire wide from the edge of the area.
Thirty-three-year-old Gary McSheffrey struck the bar in the 27th minute after controlling a cross-field ball.
Scunthorpe continued to press and Crewe keeper Garratt saved well in the 35th minute from goalscorer Madden.
McSheffrey was involved again early in the second half, seeing an effort cleared off the line after 55 minutes, before being replaced by Kevin van Veen immediately afterwards.
Garratt kept the Iron's lead to one goal after saving a Hopper header from a Scott Laird corner, before Crewe's Jon Guthrie shot over the bar from six yards.
Madden then struck again in the 65th minute to give Scunthorpe a 2-0 lead, firing home from a Hopper through-ball, which was enough to seal three points for the Iron.
