Damien Duff: 'Republic of Ireland Euro 2016 qualifying chances are slim'

The Republic of Ireland's chances of qualifying for Euro 2016 are "slim", according to former international Damien Duff.

Damien Duff has admitted that the Republic of Ireland's chances of qualifying for Euro 2016 are "slim".

The Republic are currently fourth in Euro 2016 qualifying Group D behind Poland, Germany and Scotland, but will face Gibraltar and Georgia next month as Martin O'Neill's side look to achieve a top-three position.

While there is still a chance of the side getting to next summer's tournament, Duff is not too confident.

"I think it'll be difficult," he told RTE Sport. "Chances are slim to be brutally honest but we'll see how we go. Six points next month would put us back in it, we'll see."

As for the recent World Cup 2018 draw, Duff is also wary of the Republic's qualifying group which includes Wales, Austria, Serbia, Georgia and Moldova.

"People say we've a nice draw for the World Cup but I'm not quite sure about that. I still think it's very tricky so tough times ahead."

Duff made 100 caps for the Republic of Ireland, with his last coming against Italy at Euro 2012.
