Real Madrid beat San Lorenzo to claim 2014 Club World Cup

Goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale give Real Madrid a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo in the final of the Club World Cup.

Real Madrid have defeated San Lorenzo 2-0 in the Club World Cup final to claim their fourth trophy of the year, while extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to 22 games.

The Spanish giants, who have also tasted success in the Copa Del Rey, Champions League and European Super Cup in 2014, almost edged ahead inside the opening two minutes when Toni Kroos stole possession from the opposition, but Karim Benzema could not round off the move with a goal.

Gareth Bale had a shout for a penalty turned down on 15 minutes when he was wrestled to the ground by Emmanuel Mas, while Benzema tested Sebastian Torrico soon after with a low drive.

Having taken control of the game, Madrid were finally able to make the breakthrough before the interval when Sergio Ramos nodded home Kroos's corner to match his effort of seven months ago in the Champions League final.

There was some disappointment for Los Blancos before the break when Marcelo was withdrawn with what looked to be a torn hamstring, with Fabio Coentrao coming on in his place for the remainder.

Bale put his side well in control of proceedings six minutes after the restart when his rather tame shot squirmed under Torrico and into the back of the net, giving Real some breathing space in the Marrakech final.

Ancelotti's charges, who are now just two wins short of the all-time record run set by Curitiba, could have added to their tally through Benzema, although he failed to convert the ball from all of six yards out.

Bale saw his cross come back off the bar shortly after, although it mattered little in the end as the Argentine outfit were unable to claw their way back into the contest, with Juan Mercier's strike late on the closest they came to getting the better of Iker Casillas.

Earlier today, Aukland City beat Cruz Azul on penalties to claim third place in the showpiece tournament.
