Real Madrid 5-1 Real Sociedad

Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga to six points with a 5-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Madrid started the stronger and they took the lead after just six minutes when Gonzalo Higuain found the bottom corner after good work from Karim Benzema.

It was almost two after 18 minutes when Raphael Varane advanced into the area, but his header drifted just wide.

Cristiano Ronaldo did score their second, however, after 32 minutes with a cool finish after a fine ball from Kaka.

Sociedad struggled to influence the match in the opening period, but an Antoine Griezmann header almost found its way into the top corner after 38 minutes.

It was three for Madrid moments later, however, when Benzema chipped into the net after a searching ball from Xabi Alonso.

Sociedad secured an unlikely goal on the stroke of the interval via a strike from Xabi Prieto to leave the half-time score at 3-1.

Benzema made it four for Madrid moments into the second half when he fired a powerful effort into the corner.

It was five for Madrid after 56 minutes when Ronaldo collected a Higuain pass before finishing with ease.

Sociedad desperately lacked ideas as the half progressed, with the home side dominating the possession.

Madrid eased off in the latter stages, but were always comfortable in securing the victory.
