Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 50th goal of the season as Real Madrid beat Malaga 3-1 at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

Goals from Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez left the home side with a 2-0 lead, but Malaga had hope 20 minutes from time when Juanmi registered from inside the box.

Madrid made sure of the points late on, however, when Ronaldo, who missed an earlier penalty, converted from close range.

Los Blancos are now two points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Iker Casillas: Did not have an awful lot to do in terms of saves and might have been a little disappointed with the Malaga goal. That said, the defending in front of him was poor on that occasion. (6/10)

Defence

Alvaro Arbeloa: Brought into the team in place of Dani Carvajal and the defender had a decent game without pulling up too many trees. Was replaced by Carvajal for the final 15 minutes. (6/10)

Sergio Ramos: Showed excellent awareness to open the scoring, while the Spaniard won a number of aerial duels in the second period. Real Madrid's best defender once again. (7/10)

Pepe: Might have been a little disappointed with his part in the Malaga goal, but the Portuguese, on his return to the team, made a number of crucial challenges throughout the game. (7/10)

Marcelo: Was his side's most threatening player for long spells of the first period, while the Brazilian was not really worried down the other end. Another good performance. (7/10)

Midfield

Luka Modric: As expected, kept things ticking over in the middle of the park, but the Croatian exited with a knee injury on the hour mark and could now be facing another spell on the sidelines. (7/10)

Toni Kroos: Delivered some decent set pieces, but the German picked up a booking late on and was a little clumsy during periods of the second 45 minutes. (6/10)

Isco: Given the chance to impress against his former club, the Spaniard struggled to make his mark. Did some good defensive work late on, but hardly contributed in the final third. (6/10)

Attack

James Rodriguez: Only recently returned from a broken foot, but the Colombian has settled straight back in. Finished off a fine move to net the second goal and was always a threat in attack. (8/10)

Cristiano Ronaldo: Critics will point to the penalty miss and a poor finish late on, but one goal and two assists made it yet another impressive evening for the outstanding Portuguese. (8/10)

Gareth Bale: Only lasted five minutes after picking up a thigh problem. It is currently unclear whether the Welshman will be fit to face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening. (5/10)

Substitutes

Javier Hernandez: Has really struggled for football this season, but the Mexican worked his socks off after entering early on and did excellently to set up Ronaldo for his 50th goal of the season. (7/10)

Asier Illarramendi: Replaced Modric after 60 minutes and did well to pick up the pace of the match. Sat in front of his back four and kept possession when needed. (6/10)

Dani Carvajal: Had a fairly uneventful 15 minutes on the field. (6/10)

MALAGA

Goal

Carlos Kameni: Made a couple of really good saves in the first period, but the goalkeeper might feel that he should have done better for Real Madrid's second. A bit of a mixed bag. (6/10)

Defence

Roberto Rosales: Was always prepared to break forward and it was the full-back's excellent work and indeed delivery that brought the Malaga equaliser. Can be pleased with his night's work. (7/10)

Sergio Sanchez: Was drawn out of position on a number of occasions in the second period and was walking a fine line late on after picking up a yellow card. (6/10)

Marcos Angeleri: Part of a defence that conceded three goals, but the centre-back had a decent game. Won a number of aerial battles and was prepared to play from the back when possible. (6/10)

Arthur Boka: Like Rosales, Boka was more than prepared to break forward when the opportunity arose, but the full-back's delivery might have been a little better. Solid enough defensively. (6/10)

Midfield

Nordin Amrabat: Always looked the player most likely to make something happen for the visitors. Can be sensational, but it was a mixed bag here. Some excellent pieces of play and some poor moments. (7/10)

Sergi Darder: Has been one of La Liga's most impressive midfielders this season, but the Spaniard missed a guilt-edged chance at the end of the first half - firing high of the crossbar from close range. (6/10)

Recio: Kept things ticking in the middle of the park and matched up to the Real Madrid midfield for long spells, but he was replaced by Fernando Tissone for the final 15 minutes. (6/10)

Samu Castillejo: Struggled to make his mark in the final third and gave away a penalty for a poor challenge on James. Was replaced by Ricardo Horta after 81 minutes. (5/10)

Samu Garcia: Offered a threat in the final third and looked dangerous when he found space, but spent too long drifting in and out of the game. Will have better matches. (6/10)

Attack

Juanmi: Worked extremely hard in the final third and got his reward after 71 minutes when he headed past Casillas from close range. Always a threat when Malaga had possession. (7/10)

Substitutes

Fernando Tissone: Replaced Recio in a like-for-like change, but the midfielder was a little clumsy and picked up a booking late on for a poor challenge on Isco. (5/10)

Ricardo Horta: Showed bits and pieces in the final third and delivered some dangerous crosses. Might have made more of an impact had he been introduced earlier. (6/10)

Duda: Hardly touched the ball in the final five minutes. (5/10)
