Keylor Navas welcomes talk of goalkeeper competition

Real Madrid glovesman Keylor Navas vows to fight for the number-one jersey should a new goalkeeper be signed in the summer.

Keylor Navas has insisted that he is "calm" about his Real Madrid future and welcomes the prospect of a new goalkeeper being brought in to rival him.

The Spanish and European champions have been linked with an array of long-term number ones in recent times, including both Thibaut Courtois and David de Gea.

Madrid are also understood to have missed out on Kepa Arrizabalaga, who instead put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Athletic Bilbao.

As rumours continue to circulate regarding a new keeper being signed, Costa Rica international Navas claims that fresh competition will only be a good thing for the club.

"I am calm because one day I will have to go," he told reporters after Madrid's 2-2 draw with Levante on Saturday evening. "Nobody will last here forever and only God knows when [I will leave].

"I give my all in every training session and in every match, so I can to live with that. I don't know if the club have doubts about me, I only know that I still have a contract and I will remain calm.

"If Real Madrid were to sign a goalkeeper in the future and let him compete with me, then I would like that and it wouldn't intimidate me."

Navas once again played the full 90 minutes in the draw at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia - his 18th appearance of the season in all competitions.
