Nigel Adkins thanks the Reading fans following his sacking as manager of the club.

Nigel Adkins has taken to Twitter to thank Reading fans after being sacked as manager of the club.

The 49-year-old was dismissed on Monday night following a poor start to the season for the Royals.

Reading currently occupy 16th position in the Championship table, having lost 10 of their opening 21 games.

Assistant manager Andy Crosby and first-team coach Dean Wilkins have also left the club.

Adkins, whose former clubs include Scunthorpe United and Southampton, joined Reading in March 2013.
