Nigel Adkins hails Reading's "excellent" start

Nigel Adkins says that Reading's win over Ipswich Town was an "excellent" start to their season.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has hailed his players after a Danny Guthrie goal earned them a 2-1 win against Ipswich Town in the Championship this afternoon.

Guthrie struck in the 75th minute after Adam Le Fondre had earlier cancelled out Jay Tabb's opener for Ipswich.

"Ipswich Town is a difficult game but I'm really pleased," Adkins told talkSPORT. "We've gone behind but we were strong in the second half. It's an excellent start to the season.

"We've had a good pre-season with everyone available for selection. We've come into it, we started brightly, and Royston Drenthe for example, he's really going to excite the supporters."

Adkins also highlighted the need for a competitive squad as he seeks an immediate return to the Premier League.

"If you want to be successful, you need that squad of players," he continued.

"We've got a week's preparation going into the Bolton fixture, but you've got to have a mentality that you don't get too high when you win or too low when you lose."

Reading go to Bolton Wanderers next weekend before taking on Watford at home on Saturday, August 17.
