Dominant Rangers see off Stirling Albion

Goals from David Templeton and Andy Little help Rangers to a 2-0 win over Stirling Albion.

Second-half strikes from David Templeton and Andy Little gave a dominant Rangers a 2-0 victory over Stirling Albion on the day of the club's 140th anniversary.

Ally McCoist's side wasted no time going forward, firing early warning shots through Lewis Macleod and the in-form Templeton.

Rangers kept up the early pressure and came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on 10 minutes when Macleod shot inches wide from the edge of the box.

The home side could have taken the lead in the 18th minute through Kyle Hutton, who somehow bounced his effort over the bar after Kevin Kyle presented the ball to him on a plate with a neat header.

Albion barely threatened the Rangers goal in the first period, but they created a half-chance on 31 minutes when Marc McCulloch dragged a shot wide of Neil Alexander's goal.

Rangers came within an inch of scoring just before half time. Kyle latched on to a reverse through ball, but saw his shot come crashing back off the post.

McCoist's men started the second period in the same dominant fashion, almost edging their noses in front in the 56th minute though Dean Shiels's close-range attempt.

The deadlock was finally broken six minutes later when Barrie McKay powered down the left wing and played in a low pass for Templeton to slot home.

Albion struggled to create much in the final third, but they hit the post during a rare attack in the 79th minute. Josh Flood took advantage of a defensive lapse, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Any hope of a late Albion fightback was dashed in the 85th minute when Daly McSorley was given his marching orders for picking up a second yellow card.

Rangers capped off the win with one minute left on the clock. McKay provided a pinpoint pass from the left, and Little was in the right place at the right time to bury.
