Newcastle United came from behind to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Loftus Road in the Premier League, as both teams scored first-half penalties.

The home side, who are already relegated, won a penalty after 11 minutes when Mathieu Debuchy fouled Junior Hoilett. French striker Loic Remy stepped up to put QPR ahead by slotting the ball into the left corner.

However, Newcastle responded a few minutes later from the penalty spot after Hatem Ben Arfa was dragged back by Jose Boswingwa. The Newcastle midfielder stepped up to slot the ball home and level the scores at half time.

With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, a mix-up between Bosingwa and Green saw the ball fall to Yoan Gouffran, who slotted home to give Newcastle the lead.

In the second half, Hoilett once again ran at the Newcastle defence and fired wide after drifting past two defenders.

Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot was sent off for a second bookable offence with 10 minutes remaining to set up a tense finale, and Bobby Zamora and Andros Townsend fired over the bar in the closing stages of the game.

Nonetheless, Newcastle held on to win the game and secure their Premier League status.
