Chris Ramsey: 'Charlie Austin stay will benefit Queens Park Rangers'

Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey plays down suggestions that the club missed out by not cashing in on Charlie Austin.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Chris Ramsey has played down suggestions that the club missed out by not selling Charlie Austin.

The striker was heavily linked with a move away from Loftus Road during the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting that Premier League sides would pay up to £15m for him.

However, Ramsey has said that the club stands to gain more financially by keeping hold of him because they have a better chance of a return to the top flight.

"You could lose out on not selling Charlie, but on the other hand you could gain more by him staying and making the club successful," Ramsey told Get West London.

"Either way, as long as the player does what we know he's capable of, and I'm sure he will, everyone's happy."

Austin has scored four goals in five Championship appearances so far this season.
