Preview: Tondela vs. Portimonense - final score prediction, form guide

Sports Mole previews Friday night's Primeira Liga context between Tondela vs. Portimonense.

Two teams struggling at the wrong end of the Primeira Liga table go head to head on Friday night when Tondela host Portimonense at Estadio Joao Cardoso.

The home side go into the weekend still winless after four games of the campaign, while Portimonense only picked up their first win of the season last time out.

Match preview

Tondela come into this match looking to bounce back from a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Sporting Braga in their last home game.

Newly-appointed manager Pako Ayestaran, who was previously Rafael Benitez's assistant at Liverpool and Valencia, is still searching for his first win in charge of the club, having only amassed two points from four outings so far.

One of those points came last time out as Filipe Ferreira's strike earned a 1-1 draw at Gil Vicente, extending their winless run but also lifting themselves out of the relegation zone in the process.

A home tie with a fellow struggler represents their best chance yet to get a first win on the board, particularly with their next four games after this coming against teams who all currently sit in the top five.

For Portimonense, Friday is a chance to build on their first win of the campaign after they came from behind to beat Maritimo on Saturday.

Goals from Dener and Anderson Oliveira handed Paulo Sergio's side a much-needed three points after back-to-back defeats without scoring prior to that.

Portimonense only won two away league games throughout the whole of 2019-20 - one of which incidentally came at Tondela - and so getting their first on the board so early this term will be a relief.

However, they have not won successive Primeira Liga away games since February 2018, and have only achieved that feat once home or away since January 2019.

We say: Tondela 1-1 Portimonense

Neither of these two sides have particularly impressed so far this season, but Portimonense won last time out and also won here last season, so they will be confident of coming away from Friday's game with at least something to show for it.
