Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye fit to face Everton on Monday

Alan Pardew says that Yohan Cabaye is likely to return to fitness against Everton next Monday evening.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that midfielder Yohan Cabaye is expected to return to action for Monday evening's Premier League match against Everton.

Doubts over the Frenchman's fitness arose when he limped out of the Magpies' 3-2 defeat to Hull City on Saturday, resulting in his absence from tonight's League Cup tie against Leeds United.

"We think Yohan will be fine for Everton, but I do want to protect him a little bit," Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

"He's not had a lot of football, and the two games last week had a little bit of a toll on him. I'm protecting him."

Shola Ameobi and Jonas Gutierrez are also absent for this evening's encounter at St James' Park.
