New England Revolution hammer Real Salt Lake

New England Revolution extend their unbeaten run to six matches as they hammer Real Salt Lake 4-0 in their MLS match at Gillette Stadium.

New England Revolution cruised to a 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake in their MLS clash at Gillette Stadium.

The visitors were the first to threaten as Luis Gil carved out space to fire a low strike towards goal, but Bobby Shuttleworth got down to tip his shot past the post.

The Revolution took the lead in the 39th minute when Chris Tierney raided down the left flank and cut back onto his right foot to drill an effort past Jeff Attinella into the top corner.

New England doubled their advantage just before the break when Charlie Davies was played down the inside right channel and fired at goal. His strike was well saved by Attinella, but Juan Agudelo turned in the rebound at the back post.

In the second half, the home side put the game beyond the reach of Salt Lake when Scott Caldwell lifted a cross into the box for the run of Davies, who powered a header into the net.

The Revolution almost got their fourth goal when Davies found Lee Nguyen on the edge of the box and he unleashed a strike which hit the underside of the bar, with Agudelo's effort on the rebound well saved by Attinella.

New England sealed their win following a scramble in the box as Steve Neumann saw his close-range strike saved by Attinella, but Caldwell collected the ball on the edge of the area to place a left-footed drive into the bottom corner.
