Michel has been unveiled as the new head coach of Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.
The post had been available since Marcelo Bielsa decided to resign following the 1-0 defeat to Caen earlier this month.
The likes of Jurgen Klopp and Walter Mazzarri had been linked with the position over the last few days, but the role has been entrusted to former Real Madrid midfielder Michel.
Having started his managerial career with Rayo Vallecano, the 52-year-old has gone on to take charge of Real Madrid B, Getafe, Sevilla and Olympiacos.
