Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho wants to join either Arsenal or Manchester United this summer, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past few months, with a host of clubs said to be chasing his signature.

Carvalho is thought to be a long-term target for Arsenal, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger looking to bolster his defensive midfield options.

The Portugal international has attracted the attention of Europe's top clubs with some impressive displays for Sporting over the past 18 months.

Carvalho has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this season.
